Howard "Andy" Andersen

'Andy' was ill the day the 'Victory bound' crew was shot down.  Eight days later, he was the navigator for the crew of the "Jaunty Joan" when his plane was hit and the crew bailed out.

Andy was shot down on May 18, 1944 and taken to a POW camp in Bucharest, Romania. The camp was liberated in September of 1944.  He was a POW for about 8 weeks. Eventually, Andy became a helicopter pilot and picked up downed airmen from the Sea of Japan during the Korean War. Then he was a consultant during the Viet Nam War, and retired in 1976 with a very distinguished military career.
